Miki Maruta

Miki Maruta "naturally" explores the sound of the koto as an expressive form. She brings her flexible aesthetic sensibility and adaptability to diverse collaborations. Maruta passed the NHK Japanese Music Audition. She was a guest musician at Wesleyan University in the United States from 1990 to 1992, and a participant in the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs arts trainee program in 1994. In 2009, she performed with Terry Riley and the Kronos Quartet at New York's Carnegie Hall. Maruta has released the solo album Tori no yo ni (Like a Bird) and participated in numerous artists' CD recordings. She has also appeared on TV and radio programs. Miki Maruta studied koto with Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai, and graduated from the special music course of Takasaki Art Center College. She is a part-time lecturer at Mie University.
