Launched on the initiative of Otomo Yoshihide, FEN is an improvised music group made up of four musicians from four countries in Asia. The members are Otomo Yoshihide (Japan), Yan Jun (Beijing), Yuen Chee Wai (Singapore) and Ryu Hankil (Seoul). The occasion for the group's formation was a performance at the MIMI Festival in Marseille, France, in 2008. Not only are the members outstanding improvisers; they are also important figures who continue to develop the alternative music scenes in their respective cities, and cornerstones of the network bridging various scenes. They have no designated base of activity; they continue their evolution as they continue their travels. FEN has performed in countries including Korea, Singapore, China, Thailand, Japan, Switzerland, the UK and Italy. In 2015, they will be touring Scandinavia and Australia.
