Born in Kokubunji, Tokyo, in 1955. Since the end of the '70s, Hirose has been active on the free jazz and improvised music scenes as a sax player. Since the early '80s, he has also been playing his "self-made sound instruments" (SSI), the noise instruments he makes by setting up household objects and odds and ends on tables. As of now there are nine SSIs (SSI 1 to SSI 9). At Ftarri Festival 2015 Hirose will play SSI 6, which uses an air compressor to blow strong blasts of air onto the surface of several layers of stretch wrap, thus producing quiet white noise.
