Keiko Higuchi is a Tokyo-based vocalist/voice performer active mainly in improvisation. She started performing as an improviser in Boston and New York in the 1990s. After returning to Japan in '98, she expanded her activity to the fields of dance and theater in addition to music, making free and full use of her distinctive voice and expressive intensity. Higuchi has released numerous solo and collaborative albums. On the Ftarri label, Passing and Longing and There Is Only a Trace Left (ftarri uta 222), a duo CD with pianist Shinichiro Kanda, came out in 2017.
Naoto Yamagishi, a percussionist working mainly in Tokyo, is active not only in the field of music, but also in wide-ranging collaborations with diverse artists--dancers, poets, photographers, flower arrangement practitioners, painters, media artists and more. Yamagishi spent several years in Europe, and he continues to tour regularly outside of Japan and collaborate frequently with international musicians. In 2020 he started his own label, Yabuki Records. Its first release was Yamagishi's solo CD Toyomu. This album documents two improvised duo sets (24 and 34 minutes) performed by these musicians at Ftarri, Tokyo, on February 28, 2021.
